Are you at least 15?: Yes.
Current Characters: Yuri Nakamura, Lydia Carlton, Takashi Natsume.
Character: Sawako Kuronuma
Fandom: Kimi ni Todoke
History: Heeere.
Personality: Meet Sadako. You might have been talking in the bathroom and a dark presence opened the stall behind you, loom and gloom and horror escaping as the face of impending doom coats the long-haired, pale-faced girl that exits the stall. It's that girl. The one who can see ghosts, who can curse you, and if you look into her eyes for more than 3 seconds bad things will happen. Some call her a zashiki warashi, others call her a witch... but most have come to know her as Sadako, like that girl from The Ring.
But.. that's not who Sadako is. She's not any kind of cursed presence, she can't see ghosts, she doesn't even mean to look angry or like she popped out of a horror flick. Her name isn't even actually Sadako, it's Sawako. Sadako is just what people started calling her at school because of how she looks and seems to act.
The truth is that Sawako Kuronuma is an extremely shy girl. Those mean or angry faces she makes come out when she gets frustrated or upset at herself for not being able to say something properly. A lot of the time, she doesn't say what she means or she might not say anything at all, not realizing that it's causing a misunderstanding until it's too late. Whenever she realizes that a misunderstanding has been had, she'll try to be frank and explain the situation in the best way that she can think of-- regardless of what it is, which can sometimes get her into trouble if it's not someone who's friendly. Many times Sawako also explains it in a way to avoid putting anyone down and distances herself from them in order to make sure that they know they're under no obligations from her. She usually believes that version of the story too, since Sawako is the type of earnest person who tends to trust others' judgment over her own... even if that alleged judgment was something she mistakenly assumed they were thinking or feeling. Sawako has a bad tendency to put those around her ona pedastal high above herself, idolizing those that she respects instead of always seeing the reality of the situation.
She values friendship above basically everything else. Her friends' words, her friends' feelings, her friends' actions-- she's hyper-aware of them, though she doesn't always read them correctly and on occasion it does cause a rift between them due to miscommunications. They're still more important to her than anything in the world, even when she feels like giving up. Sometimes she feels like giving up if things are hard and might try to avoid confronting others, but thanks to being given lots of reminders not to give up (usually from Kazehaya), she manages to pull through. Sawako is an extremely optimistic person, despite a lot of the things that she faces, and always looks at the world with a bright view, assuming the best of everyone. In addition to not giving up, she tends to take the first step forward and go the extra mile to make sure that she fulfills everyone's expectations. If that means helping out with chores, spending extra time practicing for a sports festival, or watching horror movies to try to improve her ghost impressions, she'll do whatever it takes.
Sawako's lack of social relationships for a good portion of her life gave her plenty of time to study. She's actually rather good at most subjects, ranking #13 in the school even when she started crying during a test and missed questions because she couldn't concentrate. She stated that her grades had definitely slipped at that time because of it. Interestingly enough, despite her errors in communication she's actually a very good teacher. The entire class average goes up after they take turns studying with her and her special main-point notes get circulated around the class, bringing up the test scores of even the worst students in the class because Sawako is incredibly good at explaining academic concepts. Part of what inspired her to do so well academically was the possibility that one day someone would turn to her and ask her to explain something, then she'd be able to help them and make a positive impression.
As earlier stated, Sawako is definitely shy. She has trouble talking. She'll clam up a lot, stutter, and sometimes there will be pauses before she speaks because she can't figure out what the right thing to say is. She easily gets embarrassed, even when just calling her friends by their first names (it takes her actual effort to get to the point of doing it). She is easily flustered and it makes talking to others difficult. If a sudden movement is made, she might jump just the tiniest bit like a squirrel in the park. Sawako can be a bit of an airhead and she sweats if she gets nervous. She's dense when it comes to the feelings of others and, frankly, her own feelings when it comes to something beyond friendship. Sawako can have a bit of a jealous streak when it comes to Kazehaya, but she usually won't say anything. Sawako can definitely be a crybaby when she goes to any end of the spectrum of emotions, be it happy or sad. Sawako also has a tendency to imagine things in odd ways (imagining herself talking freely with Kazehaya but.. for some reason being American, for example). She is incredibly easy to influence, as well as being fairly naive when it comes to other peoples' intentions. If someone really wanted to hurt her again and again, she would probably keep coming back because she believes the best in them-- even if they're someone like Kurumi, who intentionally started rumors to try to ruin her life almost immediately after she started making friends because Kurumi wanted to get her away from Kazehaya. Sawako still forgave her and even wanted to be friends with her and share her feelings and Kurumi eventually declared Sawako her rival.
Sawako will sometimes look up words to try to get the exact meaning of them, such as "special" or "rival" so she can understand her relationships with others more. And yes I mean look up in the dictionary, she's somewhat fond of it. Sawako really likes dogs, girly things, going out with friends, gardening, cooking, housework... she's basically the perfect housewife, honestly. Once she realizes that she feels a certain way about a person, she might not confront them directly with her feelings because she's satisfied with how they are now or she doesn't think she deserves to move forward in a relationship-- whether it's friendship or love.
